Welcome To The Belstaff Store

Moto Central is now the United Kingdom's premiere dealer of Belstaff Motorctcle Clothing and Accessories. We are extremely proud to offer such items of impeccable quality.

Belstaff was established way back in 1924, founded by Harry Grosberg in Victoria Place, Longton, Stoke-on-trent in Staffordshire right here in the United Kingdom, not too far away from where we at Moto central are actually based! The original products were waterproof garments created for men and women... (how things have changed since 1924) For the company logo a phoenix was chosen, the image still remains in some form now of the legendary beast rising from the flames, this was thought to be for good luck - after all the phoenix never truly dies, the idea was that in bad times Belstaff could rise again for new beginnings as it were! As the first company in the world to produce a waterproof but breathable material now known as 'Wax Cotton' the company was able to create a product which was ideal for the time's motorcyclists, as the wax material was fantastic in all weathers... however back then the material was a bit stinky!! 'Wax Cotton' was special because it was developed using fine Egyptian cotton treated with natural oils thus Belstaff Bike Gear was born.

Come 1930 the new Belstaff Bike gear company was producing specialized wind proof, rain proof and other highly resistant garments, the product range was gaining high praise and moving into different markets including bikers, aviators even soldiers in the army, in fact they had become so well known the brand was being used by people who wanted to use the clothing for casual. Belstaff Bike Clothing continued to produce branded goggles, gloves, boots, helmets and even rider bags, all which had gradually grown in the 5 years of the companies existence to offer ultimate protection and safety for the times.

By 1943, the famous 'Black Price Motorcycle Jacket' had hit the market, this jacket was and still is the very best selling motorcycle garment of all time, and for over 4 decades forty thousand units were produced yearly in a separate purpose built facility located in Silverdale. However Belstaff bike gear continued to incorporate all of the key features that showed their love for British tradition, which is why the companies previous jackets still hold value in today's market.

Shortly thereafter, in 1947 to be exact, came the dawning of Belstaff motorcycle clothing's other well known jacket, a jacket still available in various forms even today: The Belstaff Trialmaster, a jacket worn by several generations of all kinds of bike enthusiasts - made famous by 'celebrities' such as Sammy Miller, Phil Read and Ernesto Che Guevara, who between them knocked up over 2000 victories across Grand Prix and other competitions. By 1950 the clothing had become an item of expectancy amongst Motorcycle riders, you wore a Belstaff not a motorcycle jacket. (Jackets retained from the 1950s and 1960s still today retain the most 'value').

By 1970 the domination by Belstaff motorcycle clothing was evident and we can now see signs of the 'Belstaff Pure Motorcycle Collection' rising, as the XL 500 jacket was introduced a jacket still available today, the original was created in a 'nylon' material known as 'Belflex', a material that was extremely hard wearing, 100% waterproof and would remain durable for years to come. Today the XL 500 has been tested in its many evolved forms by thousands of riders across the globe all of who will know what a good jacket the XL is even in modern times.

The beginning of the 90's saw the United Kingdom hit a recession, particularly the clothing and textile industries alike felt the sting, and despite the 'Evolution' range being introduced it was not enough to save the company from disaster and in 1991 the doors of the Stratford warehouse were closed for good - it all seemed to be over... but one man had a vision Franco Malenotti an employee at the time took production to Wellimborough and was responsible for overseeing new designs to take them through the decade, and half way through, 1994 the new nylon 'Belfresh' material was created an exceptional garment that was absorbant, designed to reduce sweat, it was ideal for hot temperatures. 1995 was the year 'Beltech' was introduced and made history as a jacket that offered waterproofing, breathability and ultimate protection.

1996 saw the rise of the modern 'clothing company' as Franco Malenotti took the Belstaff Pure Motorcycle collection to a whole new level... 1999 saw the introduction of 'Ironguard' an external metal protection. in the same year other jackets that were in the 'Stratos' series made from different combination of textiles were also produced.Since then, they have grown in to a multi million pound corporation with a 'fashion range' and a bike gear range' both of which offer the very best in modern technologies - Moto Central would like to point out that although our items are primarily Motorcycle Jackets, their use for fashion should not be overlooked.

The Belstaff Long Way Down Collection:

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman set out again on a round the world trip; after their first encounter during the 'Long way Round' journey from London to New York the two men took another outstanding trial from the north of Scotland down to the base of South Africa, a distance of well over 15 thousand miles; from John O’Groats to Cape Agulhas. They traveled through over 15 counties to reach their final destination: Libya, the barren desert of Sudan and Ethiopia’s tribal lands. From the Ugandan jungle to Rwanda, Tanzania, Botswana and on to Namibia’s wild, spectacular keleton Coast. After their first exploration in Belstaff Gear, this time the guys are kitted out in the most advance suit in the 'Pure Motorcycle Collection' ever. Belstaff have been the leading designer and manufacturer of high-tech, practical apparel for over eighty years.
